11th Annual Christmas on the Square
The holiday spirit will soon fill the air as Celina kicks off the season with the festive Christmas on the Square celebration. This year marks the 11th season of the event and it’s a local favorite for friends and neighbors to embrace the merriest season of all.
From photos with Santa to local treats and train rides, here’s everything you need to know about this holly jolly good time.
A Merry Occasion
Celina welcomes the Christmas season with this celebratory festival that will take place on Wednesday, November 30 from 5 to 9 PM. This family-friendly event is free to attend, and if this year is anything like years past, it will be another popular draw for visitors and residents alike. At the time this was written, 11,000 people had already expressed interest in attending via the event's Facebook page.
The twinkling lights and holiday music turn downtown Celina into a “small-town Christmas celebration reminiscent of a Hallmark movie.”
Festive Fun for All
Whether you’re young or just young at heart, there’s something for everyone at Christmas on the Square. Children will have the opportunity to take a photo and share their wishlist with Santa, as well as help Mrs. Clause decorate cupcakes at the Celina Public Library.
Another highlight for young families will be a kids’ zone with bounce houses, slides, and a train ride for the little ones. There will be a petting zoo with a few of St. Nick’s reindeer, and plenty of festive photo opportunities sprinkled throughout the event to help families and couples capture that perfect photo for their Christmas card. Hot chocolate and other treats will be available for guests as they stroll the holiday market and take in the sights.
The Lighting of the Tree
You can’t have a Christmas festival without a Christmas tree, and Celina’s giant tree will be taking center stage in the square. A tradition and highlight of the season is the tree lighting ceremony happening at 7 PM, with the countdown led by Santa Clause and the Mayor of Celina.
Music and dance performances from area churches, dance studios, and youth groups will provide entertainment leading up to and after the tree lighting.
It takes more than Christmas magic to make this event happen and with Santa’s elves busy filling orders at the North Pole, community volunteers are needed to help make this year’s Christmas on the Square another success. If you’re interested in lending a hand and want to help spread some cheer there are still volunteer opportunities available.
