Go Green in Celina
We love Celina and do our best to help keep our city green. We’re guessing you feel the same, so we’ve put together this list of easy ways to go green and live more sustainably.
Keep Celina Beautiful
You can pitch in by dropping off your unwanted items on Celina’s Clean Sweep days. All you need to do is load up your items, make sure you have your current water bill as proof of residency, and drop off your stuff at the Public Works building (10165 Country Road 106) from 8 am to noon on July 29 and again on September 30.
You won’t even have to get out of your car or unload the items because they’ll do it for you! So make sure your pack properly to give the workers easy access. You can take most household-type items, but there are some restrictions. Don’t take tires, refrigerators or freezers, equipment containing oils/fuels/Freon, and medications. Do take yard waste, bulk trash, most appliances and electronics like water heaters, computers, and TVs, and hazardous waste like motor oil, paint, and batteries. The city takes care of the proper disposal, and you’ll help keep Celina beautiful.
Got bulky stuff you need to get rid of immediately? Call the city to schedule a pickup on your next regular trash collection day.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Go green with your daily routine by reducing, reusing, and recycling with sustainable living practices. Reduce waste and landfill piles by reusing and recycling as much as possible. Use the blue cart from the city to collect cardboard, plastic bottles (except #3), paper, and aluminum cans each week.
Did you know you can recycle almost any kind of paper? Yes, you can! You can recycle receipts, notebook paper, junk mail, brochures, and more. Find a full list here.
You can also reuse by shopping at thrift stores and consignment shops and donating clothing and other items to charities like Grace Bridge. By shopping at Grace Bridge, you can help feed local residents in need at the same time.
Cut down on plastic and paper bag waste by using reusable bags and containers every time you shop. And speaking of shopping, you don’t have to leave Celina to find what you need. You can get clothing, candles, soap, flowers, gifts, furniture, jewelry, and more at the downtown area shops.
Help conserve resources by turning off the electricity in areas you’re not using and unplugging things when they aren’t being used.
Create a compost bin and garden to use food waste to grow new food.
Carpool, rideshare, walk, or bicycle when you can to cut down on emissions and save natural resources.
