Last Days of Summer Activities
It’s hard to believe summer’s almost over, but there are still a few days before school starts, so why not make the most of them?
Avoid the Heat
With the weather hitting triple digits, looking for fun indoors may be necessary to avoid the heat. One local indoor activity is to visit the downtown Celina Area Heritage Museum, which is free! Right now, there’s a unique history exhibit that shows Celina then vs now. There is a fantastic collection of photos of Celina’s past and a video that brings history to life. Bring the kiddos out for an afternoon of exploring and learning while enjoying the AC!
But don’t stop there, downtown Celina has even more to offer. There are interesting little shops and delicious spots to grab a bite and a nice cold drink. Visit Malika’s to check out some fine art and interior design ideas, or hang out at the public library and browse some new books. You can now even watch movies there! Take the kids to storytime, learn a new craft, or even play with some LEGOs.
End the Summer With a Splash
If you are looking to get to the lake before the school year, cool off at Lake Lewisville, Ray Roberts, or Lake Texoma — all a short drive from Celina! Don’t feel like leaving the neighborhood? Splash over at the exclusive resort-style pool here at Green Meadows, play dodgeball with water balloons, or build your own Slip-N-Slide with tarps, dish soap, and water! You can even combine the slide with the water balloons for a new game—Slide-N-Dodge!
Day Trippin’
Besides a day trip to the lake, you can also go hiking or biking! Celina has excellent trails, and lots of folks recommend the A-train Rail Trail, running alongside the A-Train... You could even take a trip down to the Frisco Water Park — it’s close by and is fun for all ages! If you’ve already been there, done that, pack a picnic and hang out in one of the Celina public parks. Send the kiddos to play after lunch and enjoy a little me time. End the day with a delicious treat and stop by Hey Sugar!
Night Time Heat Retreat
Escape most of the heat with some nighttime activities! Setting up a movie theater in your backyard is pretty simple as long as you have a mobile projector. Find a flat vertical area to use as a screen or a place to hang a white sheet. Set up the projector and invite your family and friends over! But what is a movie night without snacks? Pop popcorn, grab some candy, or make it extra special with a DIY ice cream sundae bar.
